Movie Reviews: ‘Machete,’ ‘The American,’ ‘Going the Distance’ – HispanicBusiness.com
Machete Robert Rodriguez finally makes good on the movie he promised in a short trailer that debuted as part of his and Quentin Tarantino’s double feature “Grindhouse” back in 2007. Danny Trejo stars as the titular vigilante, who is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and teams up with a fellow butt-kicker (Michelle Rodriguez) to get his revenge. The all-star cast includes Jessica Alba, Don Johnson, Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal and a pre-jail time Lindsay Lohan, playing the drug-addled daughter of a wealthy businessman. Hmmm… sounds like a role she has some experience with. 1 hr. 45 mins. The American European music video director Anton Corbijn teamed up with Hollywood superstar George Clooney to make this low-key little thriller about an assassin on his last assignment in Italy. Based on the trailers, it looks like Corbijn and Clooney are going for mood and atmosphere over story and action. Sounds like catnip for art-house fans and a must-flee for everyone else. 1 hr. 45 mins. Going the Distance After living the part of an on-again, off-again couple in real life for the past few years, Drew Barrymore and Justin Long take their adventures in romance to the big screen playing a pair of lovebirds who try to do the long-distance thing in order to keep their relationship alive. Documentary filmmaker Nanette Burstein (“American Teen”) makes her narrative debut here and the rest of the cast includes Christina Applegate, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Jim Gaffigan. 1 hr. 49 mins.

Everyone knows that America won its revolution. But, why is that so? One advantage during the war for the Americans was that their goal was much simpler than the British’s. The British would have to sack all the state capitals and defeat an army of armed civilians. Whereas, the Americans only had to hold out until the British gave up. Another, advantage was that the Americans had more foreign aid than the British. Sure the Brits had the Hessians, but they only were in for the money. The Americans had Spain and France who had been longtime foes of the Brits. That is a few of the reason why the Americans won the revolution.
